Following on from their multi award winning sell out run of Michael Collins in 2011 Tralee Musical Society presents another ground breaking and spectacular musical. AIDA is a modern musical take on a grand classic tale of the timeless bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier.
 
With a pop-rock score that features stirring ballads and rousing gospel numbers, Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is a modern crowd pleaser that embraces exuberant dancing, singing and staging. Directed by award winning Oliver Hurley AIDA promises to be another feast of musical theatre performed by this multi talented cast. As with all Tralee Musical Society productions over the last twenty five years time, dedication and perfection are the ingredients that have earned them the coveted title as Ireland's Best Musical Society.

 Oscar-winning songwriter gives thumbs up to

Tralee Musical Society

Tralee Musical Society received a major boost this week, after Oscar-winning songwriter Tim Rice emailed them to wish them luck for their forthcoming production. British-born Rice, who's written the lyrics for such famous musicals as 'Evita' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar', was the co-writer of 'Aida', which is being presented by the society at Siamsa Tire next week. Director of the show Oliver Hurley, says the endorsement from the world-renowned lyrisist is the ultimate boost for the society, ahead of opening night on Wednesday.

Tralee Musical Society Aims High And Takes Top Musical Prize

Tralee Musical Society have capped off their 25th anniversary celebrations by
winning three of the top awards at the prestigious Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) HB awards, the Oscars of the Irish music society world.  

At the AIMS awards ceremony in Killarney at the weekend Tralee Musical Society picked up awards for Best Overall Show. Best Director and Best Actor in a Supporting role for its production of "Michael Collins a Musical Drama" which was staged in March.  

The successful production packed out Siamsa Tire for 7 performances last March and such was the demand that the society is set to re stage the musical this coming October. In addition to winning the biggest award of the night the show picked up two more of the evenings big prizes, Oliver Hurley, who has directed numerous shows with Tralee Musical Society won the coveted best director award. It's not the first time the talented Tralee man has won a top prize at the awards. In 2004 he was won best director for the society's production of Children of Eden, and he took home the award for best choreography for Hot Mikado in 1998. He has also received nominations for his work on 42nd Street in 1997. Copacabana in 2005 and The Wiz in 2007. The society's haul of awards was completed by Alan Teahan a long time member of the society, who won the award for best actor in a supporting role for his portrayal of Harry Boland.
 
Winning Director Oliver Hurley praised writer and composer of the musical Bryan Flynn who was also at the awards ceremony to celebrate with Tralee Musical Society, for producing "a wonderful piece of musical theatre" Oliver also commended the extremely talented cast and crew for their hard work and efforts in helping to stage the musical. Alan Teahan also thanked Bryan Flynn to giving the show to TMS and said the award was not only for him but for the society as a whole. 

Chairperson Ena O'Shea expressed her delight for Oliver and especially Alan who has been with the society since 1993. She also thanked the "wonderful" cast and crew who she said had "done the society proud" She also thanked show creator Bryan Flynn for allowing the society to stage Michael Collins. 

The society had been nominated for a total of four awards with Killorglin man Muris Crowley narrowly edged out for the Best Actor.  

Tralee Musical Society has earned a reputation for top-quality productions a standing that has been embellished by numerous AIMS awards over the years. 

The society has been part of AIMS for several years and is currently raked in the top 20 out of 120 AIMS affiliated societies nationwide.
